Research & Resources

Training presentations (2017-2018) by Texas General Land Office, Oil Spill Prevention and Response Division:

Intro to Unconventional Oils

Understanding Unconventional Oils 2

Jefferson Railport Case Study

The USCG Research & Development Center developed and tested two prototypes capable of mitigating the impacts of moving sunken oil.  The first prototype was designed for the inland environment with the goal of diverting oil to the shoreline in currents up to 4 knots.  The second was designed for the offshore environment and the design goal was to collect moving sunken oil over time with currents less than 1 knot.  They were tested last May in the Kalamazoo River and Lake Huron, respectively (2018).
