NOAA OR&R Remote Sensing/UAS Workshop

This workshop is sponsored by NOAA’s Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) and the University of New Hampshire’s Coastal Response Research Center. The overall objective of this effort is to improve OR&R’s overall mission through effective use of remote sensing, in particular uncrewed platforms and sensors, to take stock of current inventory, practice, capabilities and overall understanding of its use as a reliable tool for object/debris/pollution detection for more effective response and habitat restoration.

Dates: January 9 & 10, 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 8:30 - 4:30 each day

Location:

     7600 Sand Point Way
     Seattle, WA

Workshop Objectives

  • Identify merits, limitations and barriers to implementation of current technologies, including case studies/lessons learned, to help OR&R meet its missions

  • Incorporate survey results for key findings

  • Identify cross-NOAA capabilities in remote sensing (e.g., platforms, sensors)

  • Identify new tools and technologies in remote sensing useful for helping OR&R meet its missions (e.g., AI, machine learning)

  • Create a matrix of capabilities of remote sensors for ORR missions
