Virtual
Overview
This (virtual) workshop is part of a two-year grant from the Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC) to the Coastal Response Research Center (CRRC) and Center for Spills and Environmental Hazards (CSE) entitled Oil Spill Modeling for Improved Response to Arctic Maritime Spills: The Path Forward. The goal of the grant is to gather expert advice in order to improve response modeling that addresses United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC) needs during a potential oil spill in the Arctic. The workshop session will be three hours and will be held between 11 – 2 pm ET (7 – 10 am AK) to accommodate as best we can our West-Coast and European participants.
The workshop itself will include presentations from each Working Group on their findings and recommendations as well as a discussion to solidify recommendations and ensure cross topic collaborations and initiatives. The Working Group report outs will focus on four major topics: Oil and Ice Interactions at the Meter/Sub Grid Scale, Oil and Ice Interactions at the Kilometer+ Scale, New and Existing Technologies for Observing Ice and Informing Models, and Visualization and Uncertainty.
Goals
The goal of this project is to gather expert advice in order to improve response modeling that addresses United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC) needs during a potential oil spill in the Arctic. The outcome of this workshop will result in a Knowledge Product detailing recommendations and proposed research projects.
