State-of-the-Art Deepwater Well Blowout Modeling Workshop

Monday, September 26, 2011 to Tuesday, September 27, 2011
Seattle, Washington

Meeting Goal

The vision of this workshop is an open discussion on modeling techniques for multi-phase flow from deepwater oil well blowouts. Information from this workshop may be used to guide development of the next generation of operational deepwater oil well blowout models for implementation in GNOME2 (General NOAA Operational Modeling Environment).

The goals of this workshop will include: 1) mix operational and academic modelers together for discussion; 2) provide information so that NOAA can decide among implementing a simple scaling model and/or spatially explicit model for deepwater well blowout oil spill response modeling; 3) capture state-of-the-art for droplet size distribution models and hydrate formation models; and 4) model must be scalable from deepwater to shallower depth blowout events.
